Quilting: The St. John quilting group makes quilts for Lutheran World Relief. It meets at church each Monday and Friday 9:00 A.M to noon. Contact Elvi Ruotsala if you have questions.
Mobile Meals: St. John is committed to delivering Mobile Meals an average of twice a year on Tuesdays for a six-week period. It requires a commitment of about one hour beginning at 11:15 A.M. with the food pick-up at St. Mary's Hospital. A sign-up sheet will be posted as these and other dates approach. The need for Mobile Meals drivers is great. If you can help any other time of the year, contact the church office.
Heifer
Project: Heifer
International is a non-profit organization that provides livestock, training and
related services to small-scale farmers worldwide to combat hunger and poverty.
For each of the past four years, St. John has raised over $5,000 through
Wednesday Lenten service offerings to purchase an ark of animals for the
Heifer program. Wednesday
Lenten service offerings will continue be designated for this program with the goal
of purchasing another ark.
Food
Pantry/Pantry Sunday:
The St. John Stocked Shelves Food Pantry serves those in need of food.
It is organized as a separate entity and has a board of directors,
currently headed by Randy Moss. Food
is donated by members and received from various food drives conducted in the
community. An offering is collected
at worship services on the first Sunday of each month for funds to purchase
fresh items such as milk and eggs. Pantry
volunteers pack food that is distributed on Monday and Thursday of each week.
Those requesting food may do so only once every 30 days so that we may
serve as many families as possible.
Red Cross Blood Drive: St. John is the location of blood drives conducted by the Red Cross. They will be held from 8:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on the first Saturday in November, January and May..
Equal
Exchange Coffee: Packaged
coffee and tea are available for purchase after Sunday worship services twice a
month. These products benefit the
growers in economically challenged parts of the world.
This is a project of Lutheran World Relief.
Memorial Garden Ministry: A memorial garden has been developed in an area behind the church. Workers to maintain the garden are needed. Watch for spring and fall planting dates and a summer weed and feed schedule.
Care and Share Ministry: Trained members of the congregation provide visits to those in the hospital or other facilities or who are homebound.
Prayer Shawl Ministry: Shawls are knitted or crocheted with prayer to be given to people experiencing illness or in need of comfort. Some involved in this ministry work at home; others meet every Wednesday, 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M at Dorothy Olson's home.
